10 Steps to Radiance

modelo-erin-heatherton-new-647x231

Radiance is more than looking your best; it is feeling your best. Because the health of the whole body is reflected in the health and appearance of the skin, Howard Murad, M.D., FAAD, Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA and founder of Murad recommends an Inclusive Health approach to skincare that aides the needs of the spirit, skin and body through internal care (proper nutrition and supplementation), topical care (appropriate skin care regimens and professional services) and focus on Sense of Self (managing stress and maintaining a healthy connection to yourself and your surroundings).

Dr. Murad shares his recommendations that can naturally help you and your skin look and feel more radiant than ever with a 10-step path to the new radiant you.

1. Get More Sleep

Sleep enables the body to reverse everyday free radical damage by replenishing energy, building new cells and repairing connective tissue. Because sleep is an ideal time for cellular renewal and overall repair for the skin and other organs, poor sleep is quite apparent in the complexion.

2. Think of Facials as a Necessity, Not a Luxury

Revitalizing skin, relaxing the mind, and improving your skin’s appearance are all benefits of a good facial. Facials feed the skin with nutrients that provide a boost to the complexion resulting in a radiant look.

3. Begin an Exercise Routine

Take up an activity that you enjoy and will stick with. Exercising regularly nourishes the skin with oxygen while sweating flushes out toxins.

4. You Are What You Eat

Food fuels your body and mind and when eating poor foods, it appears on your skin. Try eating foods that are rich in anti-oxidants, like pomegranates, which help fight free-radical damage.

5. Leave Work at Work

Make time for family, meeting up with friends, or just doing what you enjoy; your mental, physical and emotional health will improve and be reflected on your skin.

6. Wash, Treat and Moisturize Day and Night

Your face needs TLC too! Just like your dentist says to brush in the morning and night, you should also wash your face to rid your skin and pores from the dirt, oil and free radical damage that occurs whether awake or asleep.

7. Use SPF Everyday

Protect your skin and keep your complexion looking its best by using sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection every day to avoid damaging skin.

8. Include Supplements In Your Diet

Take daily dietary supplements to provide your body with all the nutrients it needs to function and provide radiance to your skin.

9. Don’t Stress!

Participating in something you’re passionate about reduces stress, promotes positive self reflection and connects people based on similar interests. Engaging in these activities each day will help fight the feelings of isolation that are growing more prevalent in today’s fast-paced society.

10.  Nurture Your Skin

Take the time a couple times a week to nurture your skin with a mask or peel, such as our new Intensive-C Radiance Peel ($50). Look for one that has plenty of antioxidants to combat free radicals. This is a great way to maintain the skin’s health in between facial treatments and boost your weekly skincare routine.

What’s New: NAAM Yoga

naam-yoga-la-deals-main-380

I’d be willing to bet that most of you - like myself - are continuously looking for new ways to improve your mind, body and soul. Of course there are plenty options here in L.A. but our new favorite way to get mentally, spiritually and physically fit is through NAAM Yoga.

One of the fastest growing forms of yoga, the unique practice of NAAM is gleaned from the best spiritual practices from the East and West. The all-inclusive system of grounded health and elevated spirituality combines movement, breath work, hand positioning (A.K.A. “mudra”) and meditation. This rare combination of techniques is coupled with a “spiritual science” that goes beyond the physicality, positive thinking and basic meditation practiced in other forms of yoga. What makes NAAM truly special are practical tools for self-healing.

In a nutshell: By doing NAAM Yoga, the blood volume in the brain is increased, which leads to neurogenesis. Plainly, it helps to not only sharpen the mind but to generate new brain cells, relieve chronic pain, heal disease, manage stress and increase life span. I know what you’re thinking - just how in the hell does it do all that? By balancing the glandular, digestive, and nervous systems, vibrant health and well-being is restored.

Santa Monica’s newest feel-good spot is headquartered in a 7,000 sq. foot oasis on Fourth Street. Check it out: NAAM Yoga | 1231 4th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401 | SITE

What’s New: Circuit Training For Your Skin

000000343961-marinet_matthee-fit

The key to maintaining youthful skin? Alternating your serums throughout the week. Besides using a moisturizer in the daily skincare regimen, every woman should have a daily anti-aging serum that will slow down the aging process and brighten skin. We love Le Mieux’s new Rx Serum ($65) for its smoothing and firming benefits combined with the brightening effects of a Vitamin C serum.

Containing Palmitoyl Oligopeptides to stimulate collagen, elastin and glucosaminoglycans production, the serum helps to reduce wrinkle depth by increasing hyaluronic acid and collage production. Other savvy ingredients include Plamitoyl Tripeptide-5 which mimics the human body’s own mechanism to produce collagen and Acetyl Octapeptide-3 to reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles around the eyes and mouth and helps to inhibit muscle contractions to smooth the skin.

For more information about Le Mieux or the Rx Serum, call 888.327.8188 or click HERE.

Oil & Water Makes for Clean Skin

hydrationistmodel

If you have oily skin, it may go against your instincts to use an oil-based beauty product on your face. But maybe, just maybe, this new product from Clairvoyant Beauty will change your mind.

file_7

Though it’s primarily beneficial for dry skin, all skin types can benefit from the brand’s Fabulous Facial Cleansing Oil ($32), which deep cleans without stripping it of essential moisture. Pulling dirt and toxins out of the pore, the cleanser gently washes them away. Made up avocado oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, it’s highly moisturizing and helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Other star ingredients like neroli and jasmine help to boast mood and uplift the senses, while organic carrot extract works to soothe irritate skin and aids in the regeneration of cells. To boast the antioxidant properties in the mix, natural preservative rosemary is added.

How to Use: Massage the cleansing oil into the skin in circular motions and remove with a warm, damp cloth.
