Skin Silk First Impressions

Here's the first impressions review on our newest foundation!

Righty-ho, guys, gals and all of you lovely people in between- Revolution have a new serum foundation. And she’s a cracker.

As a consumer, I’m very fussy when it comes to make-up, especially foundations. I have dry skin with monthly breakouts, I like a versatile lightweight, no-fuss radiant foundation. I don’t mind using a sponge, a brush or my fingers- as long as it gives me a high-quality look and my mum approves (she’s a tough critic!)

In this post, I’ll take you through my first impressions, my opinions, the claims, value for money and my conclusion on the foundation.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I was sent out a Skin Silk foundation to create some videos and first impressions on and I am in love. I purposely don’t look at the claims before trying any kind of make-up, so my opinion isn’t influenced (tough critic over here) and this is what I thought:

• It was lightweight.

• Thin.

• Hydrating but not oily/greasy.

• Light/Medium coverage (which you can build up to a medium-full coverage, I liked it with just one layer.)

• Subtle gow but it's not shiny.

• Smoothed my skin.

• Looked like skin.

• AND lasted.

Name a £10.99 foundation that gives that first impression. The lightweight feeling with the almost medium coverage was an instant win. I wore the foundation for the next couple of days; my mum (who is the biggest critic) complimented my skin and said how it was “naturally glowy” it looked.

FIRST APPLICATIONS

I tried it with a dense and a stippling brush, a sponge and my fingers, it worked with either or so you’ve got the option of applying it however you like! Below are the brushes and sponge I would recommend using. Some days I tried wearing it as a fuller coverage and some more natural and they both lasted the same and didn’t feel heavy!

BUFFING FOUNDATION BRUSH: This is the denser brush which will give you more coverage.

SOFT FOCUS BRUSH: This is the more finely distributed brush which will give you a more natural finish.

BLENDING SPONGE: This is my go-to sponge, you can play around with the coverage more with this, it all depends on how much product you use!

Apologies for the full coverage queens out there, this one isn’t for you. If you are on the lookout for a full-coverage foundation the IRL is your gal.

We’re on to a winner. I then decided to look at…

THE CLAIMS

I tried it with a dense and a stippling brush, a sponge and my fingers, it worked with either or so you’ve got the option of applying it however you like! Below are the brushes and sponge I would recommend using. Some days I tried wearing it as a fuller coverage and some more natural and they both lasted the same and didn’t feel heavy!

• Finish: Radiant Satin

• Coverage: Light Medium

• Skin-loving Serum Foundation

• Hydrates and plumps with hyaluronic & peptide complex

• Weightless, natural, breathable feel

• Gives a true-skin healthy glow

• Perfect for all skin types & doesn't clog pores

• Available in 20 shades ranging from light to deep.

If you compare this to my first impressions, I’d say nail on the head! Normally we’re sold a dream when it comes to claims, I beg to differ with Skin Silk. Knowing that it has skin benefits- Hyaluronic acid and a peptide complex… chef’s kiss.

I also recently learnt that Revolution don’t photoshop or touch up any of the photos they take. With that in mind look at these-

VALUE

As far as value for money goes Skin Silk is going right in the bag. For only £10.99 you get a range of shades with the undertones stated for ease, skin-loving ingredients, and overall, a simply wonderful foundation- a decent deal if you ask me. You can purchase from a wide range of online and in-store retailers, so it won't be hard to come by! If you’re unsure about the foundation or shade you can actually order samples from the website!

CONCLUSION

As I said at the start, I’m fussy with make-up and yet this foundation has gone straight into my daily make-up bag. Highly recommend if you have dry skin like me and you are looking for that radiant, skin-like, light foundation with all the skin loving ingredients.
